Vindicator 680 Plate Alloy Research Vessel

Watson’s Marine Centre & Vindicator pioneers way with new commercial standard

Watson's Marine Centre, manufacturers of Vindicator Quality Aluminium Boats & Trailers together with Yamaha Motor Australia are proud to be suppliers of a new 6.8m Vessel, Trailer & Dual F115hp Yamaha's to the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

This 6.8m vessel was custom built under the latest National Commercial Safety Regulations, set out by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

In May 2014 Watson's Marine Centre in Gympie, Queensland, won the commercial tender to build a new purpose built dive boat to transport Scientists and their equipment to remote areas of the Great Barrier Reef.

This new, fast vessel will make it much easier for the divers to collect field samples of coral and return them quickly to the National Sea Simulator where important studies into the ecology and biology of the Great Barrier Reef are carried out.

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Townsville, QLD, was delighted to take delivery of the new research vessel on time and on budget.

The 6.8m Vessel has 5mm bottom, 4mm floor & sides and is fitted with AMSA 2C survey requirements.

One of the special requirements requested by AIMS was an extra wide portside access door to assist in loading and unloading the vessel.

Watson's Marine Centre together with Yamaha Motor Australia have provided a tough, reliable and quality package that will serve AIMS for many years to come.

“The performance from the two newly-released F115B (115hp) Four-Stroke Yamaha Engines matched with the Vindicator 680 have exceeded everyone's expectations,” said Frank Watson, Director of Watson’s Marine Centre. “The test results of the twin F115Bs on a heavy plate boat of this size was very pleasing over the entire rev range.”

A testament to the safety of the custom-built Vindicator was realised during the commission survey, recording a stability test score of less than 5 degrees with the maximum allowable of 14 degrees.  Boasting incredible stability and exceeding the new AMSA standards, the new AIMS Vindicator 680 passed the commission survey with flying colours.

And now since commision, job allocations have been moved from larger 10 meter vessels to the 680 Vindicator as it has proved to be such a universal and complete vessel.

Watson's Marine Centre, a family owned Yamaha Dealership, has been in the marine industry for 48 years.   Frank and Denise produce high quality commercial and recreational vessels from their manufacturing operations base in Gympie. Vindicator plate aluminium boats and trailers ranging from 5.5 to 8 metres are custom built to suit your needs.
